The Algarve is located on the south coast of Portugal and it is renowned for its mild and sunny climate, its 100 miles of glorious sandy beaches with their stunning rock formations and its excellent sports facilities.
The tourist season extends from March to October and it really only quiets down in the dead of Winter. Even then, there are many days when its warm and sunny enough to sunbathe or sit outside at the pavement cafes and enjoy the balmy weather. Since the 1970s, the picturesque Albufeira has become the tourist capital of the Algarve. Its golden beaches and pulsating night-life attract holidaymakers from all over Europe, who arrive in their droves during the summer months. Once a little fishing village, Albufeira still retains much of its charm with many pretty cobbled streets leading to the town square and fisherman's beach. These narrow lanes offer a wide selection of good restaurants, while the main square comes alive at night with live bands providing entertainment in high season.
